The Ski and Sport Haus got its start in October, 1963, but was called the Ski Haus then. Skiing's popularity in Northeastern Ohio had started years before in the late 50's. Called the Cleveland Ski Club, an avid group of skiers who were traveling from New England and the Laurentians to Colorado and Europe began pushing for a ski specialty shop to supply their gear. So, with the passion for skiing at a feverish pitch, the Ski Haus was born!
Right from the start, the Ski Haus was introducing new products, procedures and services to the market. Front runners of the ski shop industry, they were intent on offering the latest, technologically-superior equipment, clothing, services, and an expert staff of skiers. Leading the pack, they expanded to include lightweight backpacking gear, tennis equipment, and 10-speed bikes by the mid 70's.
Rating skis before they buy; being the first to offer the latest gear to Northeast Ohio, including: Rossignol, Olin, Nordica foam boots, the first fiberglass skis, computerized boot fitting, stone grinding, etc.; test bindings before anyone else did it; Saturday ski schools for kids; introducing GLM ski schools from its onset; hiring three of the first certified nordic instructors in the 70's ...
